Drummond Group is offering a new service of testing designed specifically for Smart Grid and energy systems. A national electric grid consists of numerous components like eMeters, utilities and electrical entities. As the US moves toward a modernized smart grid, each part of the electric grid will be updated to correspond with new technologies and new standards, such as IEC 61850. As these new technologies are developed and implemented, it is crucial they are testing properly for interoperability and conformance in order to prevent customer problems during deployed and later problems in the product life-cycle.

Drummond Group is expertly positioned to provide interoperability and conformance testing for Smart Grid technologies. Unlike simpler unit testing, interoperability and conformance testing requires a mature and rigorous testing methodology to insure products are properly verified as interoperable and conformance. Drummond Group has performed interoperability and conformance testing for over 1000 different products-with-versions across numerous standards.

With Drummond Group, we also bring expertise of Smart Grid architecture and deployment needs. Rik Drummond, co-founder of Drummond Group, has been selected to serve on the new Smart Grid Interoperability Panel Governing Board (SGIPGB) which will provide technical support to the Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as it coordinates standards for a modernized electric power system. Rik was also voted the Chair of the Testing and Certification Standing Committee for the SGIPBG.
