The Financial Services Technology Consortium (FSTC) has asked Drummond Group Inc. to offer filename preservation as an optional AS2 testing option. FSTC includes members from the banking and financial services industry in which the use of AS2 is becoming more prevalent. AS2 filename preservation is currently documented in the filename preservation draft. The banking industry relies on filenames being communicated between trading partners. AS2 vendors are currently certifying that implementation of filename communication conforms to the standard and is interoperable.
There are two profiles for filename preservation being optionally tested under AS2 testing:
- Filename preservation without MDN responses
- Filename preservation with an associated MDN response certification
These profiles are being implemented in phases:
- (PHASE 1)--AS2 1Q07 Interop Testing: Offer Filename Preservation Certification (per current IETF document) without MDN responses
- (PHASE 2)--AS2 3Q07 Interop Testing: Offer Filename Preservation and associated MDN Response Certification
Industry support for filename preservation:
"FSTC supports the update to the AS2 standard. FSTC recognized the need within the financial industry to preserve original filenames in the exchange of documents when using AS2. We see great value in having filename preservation included in the AS2 Interoperability certification by Drummond Group."

FSTC chief of staff
