The Role of Testing and Compliance in Testing and Interoperability

Da Vinci Implementation Guides are featured in the latest Final Rules from CMS requiring qualifying health plans to implement these FHIR® standards for Patient and Provider Access as well as facilitating the promotion of data sharing interoperability. While standards are the critical first, standards alone do not guarantee interoperable systems in the field. Testing and certification play a crucial role in establishing a singular and consistent interpretation of standards and provides the market with an independent assessor of compliance. Furthermore, testing and certification often establishes a framework that aides in implementations remaining compliant and interoperable amid changes in both standards as they update as well as in product customizations, and provides a differentiation between truly compliant implementations versus bad actors who misrepresent compliance.

The panelists from several commercial solution providers of Da Vinci implementation guides will share their insights and perspectives on the value testing and certification contributes to the success of compliance and interoperability of real-world deployments of FHIR® and Da Vinci enabled products.
