AS4 Interoperability Certification
Full matrix interoperability testing for the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) Applicability Statement 4 (AS4) – ebMS 3.0 profile version 1.0 uses the SOAP/Web Services standard. All participating AS4 applications test against each other (all send/receive) to demonstrate interoperability and earn certification as a group. AS4 Interoperability certification is offered once per year, June through August.
AS4 Interoperability Pre-Certification
Pre-certification is required prior to participating in an AS4 Interoperability Certification test event. During pre-certification, you must integrate Drummond’s proprietary InSitu™ framework with your application to allow for automated testing against two AS4 reference servers hosted by Drummond. The OASIS AS4 Profile uses SOAP/Web Services standard for packaging and transport. Pre-certification testing is offered upon request.

The AS4 conformance specification defines multiple profiles, including the ebHandler, Light Client, and Minimal Client profiles—each representing different endpoint capabilities.
Drummond’s AS4 Interoperability Certification focuses exclusively on the ebHandler profile, which is the most comprehensive and widely adopted among the AS4 profiles.
How often are AS4 certification test events conducted?
Drummond conducts AS4 Certification Test Events once per year, typically running from June through August. For exact dates and registration details, please refer to our Test Calendar.
Do I need to be pre-certified to participate in AS4 test events?
Yes. If you are new to Drummond’s AS4 interoperability certification, you must first complete the pre-certification process. This requires demonstrating that your AS4 product can successfully send and receive messages with two Drummond-hosted reference products that have passed the most recent certification event. Additionally, you must integrate Drummond’s proprietary InSitu™ Framework to enable automated testing.
Pre-certification is self-paced, allowing you to work at your own speed and with your available resources. Precertification can take as little as two weeks, but typically takes two months or more depending on how much dedicated time is allotted to the process. Once finished, your product will be considered pre-certified and eligible to participate in the next AS4 interoperability test event.
Does AS4 testing require integration with InSitu™?
Yes. AS4 testing requires integration with InSitu™, Drummond’s proprietary interoperability testing platform that enables automated, full-matrix interoperability testing. InSitu allows AS4 products to automatically send, receive, and validate test cases with other participants—without manual intervention.
By integrating InSitu into your AS4 solution, your product can independently execute and log test cases during certification. Once fully adopted across a Product Test Group, InSitu minimizes coordination effort and significantly streamlines the testing process.
Can I submit test results from an internal QA process?
No. To be listed as an AS4 certified interoperable product, participants must successfully send and receive all required test cases with every other participant during the official certification event. This ensures compliance with the conformance profile implemented by your product and verifies true interoperability across the ecosystem.
Does Drummond support AS4 testing for cloud-based systems?
Yes. Drummond offers an AS4 test suite that supports the TLS protocol, which is commonly used in cloud-based environments. If your system has additional requirements, customized testing functionality can be added upon request to ensure full compatibility with your cloud-based deployment.
