Multi-Party FHIR Testing
Collaborative Testing at Scale
Real systems. Real partners. Real interoperability—delivered through Drummond‑managed events for priority FHIR use cases.
Purpose‑Driven Events That Move the Market
FHIR Test Events bring payers, providers, developers, and agencies together to prove interoperability with each other’s FHIR implementations for particular use cases, such as Da Vinci ePA or Payer-to-Payer Data Exchange, and others.
Any FHIRplace community member can choose to participate in public tracks, such as Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA)or Payer‑to‑Payer exchange (PDEX), which are scheduled in advance (Please see the FHIRplace Test Event Roadmap).
Private on-demand and by invitation only events provide a sponsor organization a cost-effective and efficient way to test and demonstrate interoperability for a particular FHIR standard or a custom use case, or for rapid partner onboarding conformance.
What to Expect
Commitment
For formal interoperability test events, a participant can expect one senior technical person about 2-3 hours a week for 6-8 week time period.
Timeline
Events kick off once a critical mass of participants have registered and completed their FHIRplace integration. Milestone dates and deliverables are announced up front.
Automation
Integrate a lightweight FHIRplace client once, and future events run largely hands‑free with automated test execution and reporting.
Not Your Traditional Interoperability Testing
Traditional FHIR testing struggles to advance adoption or demonstrate genuine interoperability. That’s why FHIRplace takes a different approach:
- Not a one‑day Connectathon. FHIRplace’s multi-week interoperability test events allow for issue identification, troubleshooting, retest, and documented assurance.
- Not a self‑directed test tool. Drummond manages scheduling, partner matching, and oversight.
- Not a sandbox. Events use pre-release FHIR implementations in in a test environment that mimics real-world variability.
- Not a one‑and‑done test. FHIRplace supports and encourages developers to maintain interoperability assurance through periodic retesting, as systems and FHIR IGs evolve.
Why Join a FHIRplace Test Event
Taking part in a public or private FHIR Test Event lets your team verify real workflows with peer systems while shaping the standards that power the next wave of interoperability.
- Gain advanced quality assurance by exercising workflows with real partners and live endpoints.
- Influence the test case scope and help shape future Implementation Guide improvements.
- Demonstrate market readiness early, building trust with customers and regulators.
- Network with peers who are equally invested in scaling FHIR across the ecosystem.
Upcoming Test Events
- Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) – Starting Soon
The ePA test event is open to healthcare providers, payers, intermediaries, and health IT developers who have or will have significant existing prior authorization implementations and have invested in self-testing using conformance testing tools, participated in one or more HL7 Connectathons, or engaged in one or more interoperability projects with partners.
