Drummond G10 FHIR® API+ program approved by ONC

ONC officially approved Drummond G10-FHIR® API+ powered by Touchstone as an alternative test method alongside Inferno for certification of §170.315 (g)(10) Standardized API for Patient and Population Services. This offering is part of Drummond’s comprehensive FHIR testing and certification program that spans across regulatory requirements from ONC and CMS, as well as sub-regulatory FHIR® use cases in various states of industry adoption. Drummond is accepting registrations to test and certify products to the (g)(10) criteria using either the Inferno path to compliance or using this new path to (g)(10) compliance using the Touchstone platform. Interested in a Touchstone demo? View our latest webinar for guidance and/or schedule a meeting with us to discuss (g)(10) testing and certification – email FHIR@drummondgroup.com.

ONC Cures updates required by December

Health IT developers must certify to the ONC Cures and make updates available to customers by Dec. 31 to avoid corrective action by the ONC. Developers unsure of meeting this deadline should consider removing the affected certified criteria and plan for CMS incentive customers to utilize a certified third party and to maintain a base EHR definition. ONC clarified what it means to “make technology available to customers” and plans to monitor developers’ compliance to this rule. Log into our Drummond customer portal to learn more.

Developers may self-attest to the new and revised Cures criteria with the exception of §170.315 (g)(10) Standardized API for Patient and Population Services which requires a live test session. To ensure certifications are posted to the ONC CHPL website by the deadline, Drummond’s last day to test and accept attestations will be Friday, Dec. 16. For more information, please visit the ONC Cures Rule page or contact us at certification@drummondgroup.com

Real World Testing (RWT) plan submission begins Sept. 12

Developers may begin submitting RWT plans Sept. 12. Refer to the ONC’s updated RWT test plan resource guide here for assistance. Invoicing for all RWT certification reviews also will be issued in September. Drummond’s due date for RWT plans is Nov. 1. An approved RWT plan and paid invoice are required for Drummond to post the developer’s plan to the ONC CHPL website before the compliance deadline.

The due date for the first set of RWT results is Feb 1, 2023. Refer to the ONC’s RWT results template for additional guidance. ONC requires that developers maintain a single landing page that links to all RWT plans and results. Developers may submit a new URL to their ONC-ACB during the RWT plan submission period, if necessary.

ONC semi-annual attestations

In accordance with the Attestations Condition of Certification, certified health IT developers must respond via the ONC CHPL website Oct. 1-31. Reminders will be sent out as this date nears. If your organization is newly certified and needs access to the ONC CHPL website, please contact our certification team at certification@drummondgroup.com.

Info blocking EHI definition applies to full scope as of Oct. 6

The definition of ONC’s information blocking will no longer be limited to the USCDI data set and will apply to the full scope of EHI – effective Oct. 6 – as defined in 45 CFR 171.102. More information may be found on the ONC Cures Rule FAQs page.

Drummond team to attend HL7® events Sept. 17-23

Drummond’s James Threatte will co-lead the ONC certification (g)(10) API test track Sept. 17-18 with the MITRE Inferno team during the HL7® 36th Annual Plenary, Working Group Meeting and FHIR® Connectathon in Baltimore. Track participants will be able to test their (g)(10) FHIR® API implementations with the ONC-approved Inferno and Touchstone (g)(10) test tools. In addition, Timothy Bennett will be in attendance at the HL7 work group meetings Sept. 19-23 and available to meet and discuss FHIR® certifications. Registration info for these events is available here. See you in Baltimore!

Pediatric health IT pilots completed

Drummond has completed its initial Pediatric Health IT Pilot which ran from June through August with three EHR companies: NextGen, Office Practicum and PCC. In addition, Arkansas Children’s Hospital participated as a provider in a “User Validation Pilot” to deliver feedback on inpatient test scripts. Feedback from both pilots have been incorporated to refine the test scripts which will be used for the official fall launch of the Pediatric Health IT Certification Program.
